Implant-Supported Prostheses

Daily Comfort, Stability, and Esthetics

Dr Yvan Gaudex

Once dental implants have been placed and properly integrated into the bone, the next step is the placement of the prosthesis—the visible part that restores your smile, chewing function, and speech.
Thanks to advances in materials, techniques, and prosthetic expertise, it is now possible to achieve highly natural, durable, and comfortable results, tailored to each clinical situation.

Dr. Gaudex and/or your dentist will guide you in choosing, designing, and adjusting your prosthesis, taking into account your esthetic expectations, functional needs, and budget.

What Is an Implant-Supported Prosthesis?

An implant-supported prosthesis is an artificial tooth (or set of teeth) anchored to one or more dental implants integrated into the bone. It may be fixed or removable, depending on the case.

Implant prostheses allow patients to:

  • Replace a single tooth (with an implant-supported crown)

  • Replace several adjacent teeth (with an implant-supported bridge)

  • Reconstruct a full dental arch, with a stable and esthetic solution—either fixed or removable (clip-on)

Each prosthesis is fully customized, based on facial shape, smile, neighboring teeth, and patient expectations.

Different Types of Implant Prostheses

Used to replace a single tooth, it is anchored to one implant and faithfully reproduces the shape, shade, and function of the original tooth. This is the most common and straightforward solution.

When several adjacent teeth are missing, a bridge can be supported by two or more implants. This avoids placing one implant per tooth, while ensuring excellent stability. It is a solid and elegant solution.

In cases of complete edentulism, a full arch (upper or lower) can be restored with a bridge screwed onto 4 to 6 implants. This solution—often referred to as “All-on-4” or “All-on-6”—offers exceptional esthetic results without visible artificial gum, and provides comfort comparable to natural teeth.

In some cases, the stability of a removable denture can be improved by attaching it to 2 to 4 implants using special connectors (balls, bars, or press-studs). Comfort and stability are greatly enhanced, while still allowing easy removal for cleaning.

Advantages of Implant-Supported Prostheses

Implant prostheses provide numerous functional and esthetic benefits:

  • Excellent stability, allowing patients to eat normally, speak without difficulty, and feel confident in daily life

  • Superior comfort, without pressure points or irritation often caused by traditional dentures

  • Personalized esthetics, adapted to your face, smile, and desired level of naturalness or whiteness

  • Preservation of jawbone, since implants stimulate bone like natural roots

Improved quality of life, restoring confidence, eating pleasure, and freedom of speech

Maintenance

Like natural teeth, implant-supported prostheses require:

  • Daily brushing with a manual or electric toothbrush

  • Use of interdental brushes or special floss designed for implants

  • Regular dental check-ups and adapted professional cleanings

Dr. Gaudex will provide detailed instructions and offer a personalized follow-up program to ensure the long-term success of your implants and prosthesis.
